speech to the Migration Institute of Australia Friday, 31 October 2014 said:

Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Minister for Industry Ian McFarlane and Minister for
Immigration Scott Morrison. Joint media release Tuesday, 14 October 2014 said:
“An effectively managed skilled migration programme ensures foreign workers supplement
rather than substitute Australian workers. A business that is forced to close because it is
unable to access the labour that it requires employs no-one. That is a lose–lose situation for
both employers and employees.”

The primary benefits of sponsorship of overseas skilled workers include;

Visa Options for Business
Temporary Business Sponsorship (457 Visa)
The subclass 457 visa is primarily intended to provide streamlined entry arrangements for businesses needing to recruit skilled staff from overseas on a temporary basis up to 4 years.
Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS)
Employer-sponsored visas are highly responsive to labour market pressures and well-suited to addressing the short-to-medium term demand for specific skills, recognising that training Australian workers takes time.
The program allows employers to sponsor foreign workers for permanent residence to fill genuine vacancies in their business.
Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS)
The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) helps Australian employers in regional and low population growth areas to recruit skilled foreign workers to fill permanent vacancies that are unable to be filled from the local labour market. Concessional criteria and a wider range of permissible occupations for nomination, and the skill level criteria are lower for RSMS when compared to ENS.
